A piercing scream filled the silence as Arywin woken from her nightmare. She sat there frozen as she stared in horror at the wall across from her bed. Breathing came in short gasps. Arywin lifted her hand and placed it over her heart. A nervous habit she had to stop. It was still. She hadn't felt her heart beat in over two years. It was empty and lifeless. Arywin sighed, trying to calm herself down. 'Everything's going to be ok.' she told herself over and over again. Ever since the change, Arywin had been dreaming about that night for the last two years.
Feeling herself starting to shake, Arywin drew her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. She rested her head on her knees and closed her eyes. The coolness of the night no long bothered her. Everything was still. No sound reached the sound of her ears as she sat there. Thoughts drifted in and out of her mind, making it hard to relax to the level that she wanted. Opening her eyes, Arywin unwrapped herself. She gave up on sleep and climbed out of bed. Reaching up to the ceiling, Arywin let out a groan of as she felt her spine crack out the stiffness. Shaking herself, she swiftly walked to the door. Just as her hand reached for the knob, Arywin froze. Out of the corner of her eye, Arywin saw the mirror standing in the corner of her room. Every time she tried to walk out of the room, the mirror caught her eye. She was always curious to glance into it, knowing exactly what she'll see. Swallowing, Arywin grabbed the handle and opened the door to the hallway. With her head held high, Arywin quietly walked down the hall only to stop outside her brother's door. Placing an ear against the cold wood, Arywin listened any sign for her brother to be in his room. After so many minutes, Arywin's guess was confirmed. He wasn't in his room but he was in the house. Pulling away from the door, Arywin turned and walked down the steps next to his door. To her, she seemed like she was floatinf, not walking. Her movements were flawless and flowing. As she reached the bottom of the stairs, Rave's smell became stronger. As she rounded the corner into the kitchen, she almost ran into that brother.
They starred at each other in silence. Raising an eyebrow, Arywin looked up and down Rave. His hair seemed to be more of a rat's nest than his normal shaggy hair style. The dark circles under his eyes stood out strongly tonight telling her that he hadn't slept in a long time. The clothes that he was wearing were wrinkly and not exactly sitting right on his body.
His smell was extremely strong as well. She could smell alcohol on his breath even though she knew that vampires don't get drink nor get alcohol poisoning. Taking a deep breath, Arywin crossed her arms over her chest, forcing Rave to explain himself.
Rave just rolled his eyes at his little sister. He hated it when she did this. He should still be mad at her but her becoming a vampire wasn't her fault. It would take a long time before Rave would ever forgive Drake for his betrayal. Coming into the house was forbidden to Drake especially when Arywin was home alone. Rave would never let Drake see his sister unless Rave was present as well. Usually it's just Libby visited the house. Rave made it very clear that whenever Libby had to bring Drake over, he wasn't welcome. Rave even sent Arywin up to her room so that he would have to worry about Drake starring at her. Seeing him tonight was not a good thing either.
Clearing his throat, Rave looked at the ground and began to confess. "Sorry. I just got in. Libby invited me over to the club and I started chatting with people. Before I knew it, it was really late."
"That doesn't explain why your clothes are all messed up." Stated Arywin. How could her brother think her stupid enough to fall for that story?
Rave looked at his sister and took another breath. He seemd to relax now, he wasn't afraid of his sister. "I saw Drake tonight." He said as he turned and walked back into the kitchen. Arywin froze at Drake's name. For a moment she had forgotten how to breath even though she never needed the air. Clearing her throat, Arywin followed Rave into the kitchen.
"Oh?" she replied waiting for more. Rave walked over to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water. Arywin walked up behind him with her arms still crossed over her chest. She stood there waiting for him to respond. When he didn't Arywin cleared her throat and spoke. "So you saw Drake? Are you going to tell me what happened or do I have to figure that part out?" Rave took a huge drink of water. It seemed like he was binding his time to answer her question. When at last he swallowed, Rave lowered the bottle and turned to look his sister in the eyes.
"Yes, I saw Drake and he and I got into a little argument. He kept asking me about you. Asking whether you were going to ever come to the club or not. I told him to get lost but he didn't back down. We got irritated at each other and the next thing I knew, we were throwing punches at each other. No big deal." Rave lifted the bottle of water again and took another long swig.
Arywin rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah no big deal. It's not like I have to worry about someone killing you or anything like that, Rave." Arywin pause for a moment to take a deep. "What were you thinking, Rave? Are you really that stupid? Honestly, Rave. I'm not surprised that Libby hasn't called me yet explaining and venting to me about you. Every time you go in there, I end up getting a call from Libby because she's ticked off at you. Rave use your head. You're surrounded by humans, for God's sake! What would happen do you think if you broke one of Libby's steal chairs? People will start wondering and asking questions. Humans will -"
"Enough, Ary. I understand your point. It was made, now drop it. You know full well that I can't stand Alastair any more. We can even be in a conversation without throwing punches. If I could, I'd destory him for what he did to you."
"Exactly Rave. To me. I don't need you to get into fights because of something that happened two years ago. It's over and done with. Move on!" The high pitched ring of the telephone interrupted the conversation. "I bet you that that's Libby right now!" Arywin turned and walked gracefully to the phone. Gently she lifted it off of the reciever.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Arywin?" asked a female voice on the other end.
"Speeching." responded Arywin.
"Thank God!" exclaimed the voice. "It's Libby. I was afraid that you brother would answer and then I'd get really pissed."
Arywin smiled as Libby vented about the fight between Alastair and Rave. Aparently this was becoming a habit. Arywin heard Rave grunt and then leave the kitchen. Arywin watched him leave and got lost into thought.
"Hello? Arywin are you there?"
"What? Wo, What?" Arywin snapped back to reality.
"Did you hear what I asked?" demanded Libby.
"No sorry. I got lost in thought." replied Arywin.
"I asked if you were going to come to the club Friday night?"
Arywin paused for a moment. She wasn't sure about the club mostly because she had never step foot in one. Arywin swollowed. She liked hanging out with Libby but for some reason, the thought of going to a club made her nervous. Libby waited for her responce.
"Um..."
"Oh come on Arywin. You need to at least give it a try. If you don't like it, which I doubt, then I won't bug you again about coming." said Libby. "Please, I'm going to be in this Friday."
"Alright fine, Libby! I'll come, ok." Arywin was sure that Libby was doing a victory dance on the other end.
"Awesome. Ok I'll so on Friday night about 10 pm, ok? Bye." Libby hung up the phone before Arywin even had a chance to say anything. She pulled the phone away from her ear to stare at it.
"Ok bye then." Slowly Arywin placed the receiver back on its stand. She heard a chuckle from the other room. No doubt her brother had just heard that whole conversation. Arywin rolled her eyes. She could believe that she had been roped into going to the club this Friday. Again she heard Rave laugh in the other room.
Arywin growled as she ran out of the kitchen. "You jerk! You put her up to this didn't you!?"
