Vampire 1 entry (continued)

John Maxner sat there for the longest moment, in silence. His blank expression slowly turned into a deep frown as he thought about Arywin’s question. Taking a quick sip of his coffee, John leaned forward and cleared his throat. “Arywin, I’m going to heed you some warning when it comes to mortals. Yes we can love them but they can’t truly love us for what we are. To most people, we would be considered monsters, daemons. Mortals fear us because of the stories that have been put under our names, our race.

“Mortals fear what they don’t understand and that leads them to destroy, thinking it’s a threat to their way of life. I know this. I have seen it time and time again, Arywin. Be careful when dealing with your mortal.” Dr. Maxner leaned back in his chair and looked around, making sure that no one had over heard what he had said.

Arywin also looked around and thought about what the doctor had said. The words sat in her stomach like rocks in a pond. Panic filled her but she kept it calm, not wanting to draw attention. Her dark blue eyes wondered back to John and she was surprised to see him starring at her with concern. Arywin shook her head and leaned forward.

“Is it possible that a human can accept a vampire as their lover? Whether they know that lover is a vampire or not?” Her eyes searched the doctor’s looking for something that would ease her discomfort.

Dr. Maxner leaned forward. Their faces were only inches away from each other, as if they were in a starring contest. Slowly he shook his head from side to side. “Arywin, that’s a dangerous path you are heading down. If your ‘date,’ as you call him, found out that you were a blood sucking vampire, how do you think he would react? Yes you grew up knowing about vampires and shape-shifters. He didn’t. You have to think about it from his point of view. Most mortals don’t believe in fantasies like ourselves. They believe that they are on top of the food chain.” He sighed and looked down at the cup of coffee in his hand. “Arywin, you have to break it off before he finds out more then what he’s suppose to know. For the safety of yourself, your family and our entire race. If he finds out Arywin, he’ll either run and tell someone who can take action, or…” John stopped talking and leaned back into his chair.

“Or what? How do you expect me to leave him…I love him.” Arywin gasped at what she had said. She didn’t realize her feelings were that extreme for Daniel. Forcing herself, Arywin looked back at John’s face pushing for him to finish his sentence. Her hands were flat upon the smooth white table. She was happy that she wasn’t gripping it, fearing that she would have broken the wood. John was looking away from her and she did everything she could to catch his eye again. Finally with a sigh, Dr. Maxner looked back at Arywin. His green eyes starred back at her with concern and worry.

“Or, Arywin, he will kill you himself.”
